As fall settles in, it’s time to transition from sun tans to spray tans. Enjoy the benefits of a flawless tan without the hassle of sun exposure and tan lines. To make the transition to spray tan season, your local Grand Junction salon has you covered. We have compiled a list of Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to protecting your tan, so that your skin can maintain that summer bronze, even if the skies can no longer do it for you!

The Do’s

What To Do Before Your Spray Tan Session

• Ensure your skin is exfoliated and hydrated regularly in the days leading up to your session. • Shave and wax 24 hours prior to your session. • Shower at least 24 hours prior to your session. • If your skin is sensitive, ask your technician to do a patch test at least one full day prior to your appointment to make sure that you will not have an allergic reaction.

What To Do After Your Spray Tan Session

• After your spray tan session, keep your skin moisturized with oil-free lotions. • Drink water to keep your skin hydrated. • For as long as the tan lasts, avoid hair removal and exfoliation. • Prevent color transfer by choosing dark, loose-fitting attire for the first day.

The Don’ts

What Not To Do Before Your Spray Tan Session

• Do not wear makeup, perfume, deodorant or oil-based soaps and lotions when attending the session. These can interact with the tanning solution and create an uneven tan. However, do lightly moisturize your knees, elbows, and ankles beforehand to prevent these areas from appearing darker than the rest of your skin.

What Not To Do After Your Spray Tan Session

• Continue to avoid makeup, perfume, deodorant, soaps, and lotions during the development period. • Do not wear tight clothing or bras after a session. • Follow your technician's advice on when to shower based on the solution used. • Avoid sweating excessively for the first 24 hours. • Avoid the chlorine in pools and the salt in oceans for up to two days to better allow your tan to set. • Avoid hair removal such as waxing and shaving directly after a spray tan to promote a more even tan. • Avoid touching your skin immediately with your hands to avoid streaking.

We hope these tips help you get the most out of your spray tan experience. At Allure Beauty Bar, we offer the custom airbrush tan (great for achieving the most even tan possible) and the custom rapid tan (great if you want a tanning experience with a quick turn-around time). Both options use NUDA’s products, a top-tier, vegan-friendly line of spray tan products. With the custom airbrush tan, you will need to wait about 16-24 hours before rinsing off. And with our custom rapid tan, you will only need to wait about 1-3 hours before rinsing. Consult with your technician to determine the specific length of time needed to allow your spray tan to set.

Feel free to call Allure Beauty Bar today if you have any specific questions, or pay us a visit if you would like to talk to one of our technicians directly. We are conveniently located in the heart of Grand Junction, between the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens, Las Colonias Park, and the Colorado River, and easily accessible off Riverside Pkwy.
